Note &#8211; we should want to get tricky if we want to do well at IB Economics <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom-style: none; border-left-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-right-style: none\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile\" alt=\"Smile\" src=\"https:\/\/opengecko.com\/geckoview\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/wlEmoticon-smile.png\" \/>). Here is a round up of resources to help you understand their effects.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\">Remember to first find a good working definition of each of these types of protectionism. I also recommend you use letters for the different \u2018shapes\u2019 rather than colours, as that is far more efficient to complete in an exam and to refer to in your text which you use to explain the diagram. It does not tackle efficiency \/ consumer and producer surplus, and these are concepts which you should then try to understand from the subsequent videos.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"360\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OkN5yog3dvQ?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"480\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\">This next video by <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/economicsfun\"><strong><font size=\"3\">economicsfun<\/font><\/strong><\/a><font size=\"3\"> is a very good explanation. The second half moves on to analysing in terms of theoretical numbers, which would not be necessary in an IB Economics essay \u2013 but being able to identify the different \u2018shapes\u2019 which the author colours in would be ideal if you used a lettering system (as is likely to be the case in your text book).<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"360\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zhD--UeRiOI\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"480\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\">This video by <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/pajholden\"><strong><font size=\"3\">pajholden<\/font><\/strong><\/a><font size=\"3\"> can not be embedded, but is worth hitting the link below for a further explanation:<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dSQTbd2iJtY\" target=\"_blank\"><font size=\"3\">tariffs and protectionism<\/font><\/a><font size=\"3\"> by pajholden<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\">Probably the best of the bunch, <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/MechamDee\"><strong><font size=\"3\">MechamDee<\/font><\/strong><\/a><font size=\"3\"> gives us a video with quiet audio, but it is thorough, starting off with the effect of trade compared to non-trade and then moving onto the impacts of tariffs. He gets in to detail with the different \u2018shapes\u2019 as letters, although the image itself is small and not so easy to see. It is very well explained though:<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sbrzouOFiic?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\">These interactive presentations by <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reffonomics.com\/\"><font size=\"3\">http:\/\/www.reffonomics.com<\/font><\/a><font size=\"3\"> are particularly useful for checking your understanding:<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reffonomics.com\/TRB\/chapter30\/worldpricetariff12.swf\" target=\"_blank\"><font size=\"3\">World Graph With Tariff<\/font><\/a><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reffonomics.com\/TRB\/chapter19\/worldpricetariffquiz.swf\" target=\"_blank\"><font size=\"3\">World Price Tariff Quizzes<\/font><\/a><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\">Finally <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/economicslessons\"><strong><font size=\"3\">economicslessons<\/font><\/strong><\/a><font size=\"3\"> give us a slick (and silent) animation that summarises the different effects well, but you\u2019ll definitely want to pause this as you go along to take it in properly:<\/font><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"360\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fAKR_8biMUw?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"480\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong><u><font size=\"3\">Quotas<\/font><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\">This a particularly tricky one to revise form the internet as there are different, conflicting explanations of how a quota works in an internationally competitive market. For IB Economics, you want the diagram that shows effective supply to be a \u2018kinky\u2019 supply curve.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/MechamDee\"><strong><font size=\"3\">MechamDee<\/font><\/strong><\/a><font size=\"3\"> gives another thorough explanation, with useful demonstration of the \u2018effective\u2019 (or \u2018kinky\u2019) supply curve.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/273UvjyuVLg?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p>  <strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Subsidies<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">What, no videos?
