Learning From Mistakes
Jun 11th
I used a modified version of this for an assembly presentation at Bangkok Patana School. The message is simple, and well known, yet is still an important one to raise with students. It should be quite easy for someone else to recycle this and explain the gist of the slides. The early slides (and video) are deliberately designed to make people laugh – mistakes are often funny after all – but the presentation takes a more serious turn on slide 8 when the audience are reminded that often your own mistakes do not feel very funny at all. The remainder of the presentation provides timeworn suggestions of how best to manage your mistakes and make the most of them, recognising that mistakes are vital to human progress.
Regional Climate in Brazil
Nov 3rd
A resource suitable for Key Stage 3 students (aged 11 to 14 years) studying Brazil as a topic within Geography. Introduces the climate of Amazonia, centred on Manaus, through a ‘living graph’ activity and then provides a chance to create a climate graph, with instructions, of the coastal lowlands in South East Brazil.

Comparing Two Regions in Brazil
Sep 16th
A resource suitable for Key Stage 3 students (aged 11 to 14 years) studying Brazil as a topic within Geography. The slideshow requires short video clips of Amazonia (North Brazil) and South East Brazil. I have referenced a BBC production called Brazil 2000 – Flightpaths (which is now somewhat dated), but other short video clips might easily be used to reflect some of the key differences between the dense coastal strip of South East Brazil and the sparse rainforest of the North.

Getting Organised With Computer Technology
Sep 8th
Over the past three weeks I have delivered three presentations at assemblies for Secondary students showcasing:
- the Zero Inbox approach to email management
- ways that this can be applied using Microsoft Outlook
- and a range of potentially useful organisational software.
These tips might potentially help our students to become better organised now that we have a complete 1 laptop per student programme running in our Secondary school.
What started as ‘work in progress’ has evolved into this. The slideshow includes links to the software which might appeal to students (or anyone) seeking to be better organised through computer and mobile technology.
